My Story…

Paths to mental health support in Ontario is complicated - it often leads to long wait in the wrong line with precious time lost. It was a Globe and Mail story more than 7 years ago about how our mental health system failed a well-resourced Toronto family that raised my awareness about our funding and delivery system for mental health care and how despite its excellence, failed patients and their families.  I don‘t wish the agony and helplessness that come with getting youth mental health support from a bewildering system on anyone.  This prompted my personal mission in making mental health services more accessible to youths and their families.

Since April 1, I became a member of the Lumenus Community Services Board of Directors.

Lumenus is the newly amalgamated agency of Advernture Place, Griffin Centre, The Etobicoke Children’s Centre and Skylark Children, Youth and Families.  I am impressed how Lumenus offers a direct path to mental health services with drop-in safe space and walk-in clinics.  Access to mental health professionals are hassle-free:  Lumenus has multiple walk-in clinics throughout the GTA requiring no doctor’s referral, appointment, cost or even a health card.   The counselling service is integrated with other more intensive support where needs can be quickly identified and the client placed in the right care stream on a timely basis.  For a large segment of our community, this is a lifeline to mental wellness and an opportunity for a successful future.

For those in the depth of family conflicts, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation or other mental health conditions, Lumenus provides them the access to the right mental health support which could guide them out of their darkness into the light.

I am proud to be part of this great organization.  Please generously support me as I raise funds for Lumenus Community Services.
