My Story…
I met Sunny Wong in my first year of university. He was in my BMath Acc Program at the University of Waterloo so I had the pleasure of taking my math and my accounting courses with him. His enthusiasm for everything was contagious. You couldn't help but think he was the personification of his name.
I was privileged to have known Sunny since that time. I was so saddened when I heard he got cancer but his spirit and way of thinking was such that I thought he was going to beat it.
Sunny fought his battle for 6 years. Way more than the doctors thought he was going to. It was his personality and his support system that kept him going.
When he passed on April 1st of this year .. I thought it had to be a joke. Sunny wasn't supposed to go... but he's not gone. He lives on with all of us. And every ray of sunshine is Sunny sending us warm thoughts.
I miss our curling together....sushi dates.. making mochi.. tea.. sunsets and so much more. I'm sorry we won't be able to push a rickshaw with you in it this year Sunny .. I know that was your goal... but this year on what would have been your 43rd birthday I will run in your memory.
When Sunny ran this race 3 years ago he hoped to raise $9,999 as a sign of longevity. I hope that our team, in memory of Sunny, can beat this goal.
Please support us if you can.
Description
I am changing the world while achieving my personal best by joining The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training! My fundraising will help explore new frontiers in blood cancer treatments while I discover new reserves of strength and performance in myself.
Did you know:
That an estimated 128,000 people are affected by blood cancers in Canada?
That someone is diagnosed every 23 minutes?
And that every 72 minutes someone will die?
I want to do my part to help change these statistics.
Unfortunately, too many of us have had cancer touch our lives and we all want to know how we can help loved ones who are battling cancer. We’re not all doctors or researchers, but we can all do our part to help.
I can train. You can donate.
