My Story…
Last year was a phenomenal experience where I ran my second marathon and finished with a big smile! Last March I injured my ankle (may or not be related) but I am getting better! No more air cast and I can walk 3 km without pain. I'm getting there.
This year I have pledged to walk 5 km to raise funds for Sistema Toronto. Sistema provides musical and intellectual opportunities for children in vulnerable communities. They learn how to be leaders in their communities using life skills such as problem solving, empathy, self-advocacy and empowerment all using music as their guide (and of course with the support of the teachers being an important supportive force in their lives). This program has demonstrated transformative changes which has led these children out of poverty.
Even through Covid, they are still learning and growing (thank goodness for Zoom technology).

Description
All donations to Sistema Toronto support our program and ensure at-risk children receive expert music teaching, nutritious snacks and instruments, to help them reach their potential. Sistema Toronto is first and foremost a social development program, using ensemble-based music education to transform the lives of 300 at-risk children and their families in the Toronto neighbourhoods of Parkdale, Jane/Finch and East Scarborough. Sistema Toronto students work together for 10 hours of weekly instruction. They learn strings (violin, viola, cello, or double bass), percussion, choir and Music & Movement while developing important life skills like problem solving, empathy, and self-advocacy.
