My Story…
During this pandemic, I am lucky enough to keep a job, stay safe and have the ability help others, even in small ways.
The place I work at might be one of the riskiest spots for the virus. Over 80% COVID-19 deaths in Canada have been linked to seniors homes. I’ve heard heartbroken stories… this pandemic has left many seniors alone and lonely.
Luckily, Yee Hong, a non-profit organization operating four long-term care homes did such a great job and kept every resident safe during the first wave of the pandemic. We know this global crisis won’t end very soon. We have to stand together and continue protecting the most vulnerable.
So I am virtually running this year’s Scotiabank Marathon in support of Yee Hong Foundation. Small or big, please consider making a donation. If not, I hope this silent message can at least raise your awareness about the issues faced by seniors.
Giving opens the way of Receiving.
Thank you so much.
Description
As the population continues to age and the demand for geriatric care continues to increase, the waitlist for a Yee Hong bed has grown to over 6000 people with a wait time that can be as long as 10 years. The Ontario Government has approved Yee Hong for 800 additional beds in three new centres in Scarborough, Markham and Mississauga, virtually doubling our current capacity. For this we must raise at least $80 million of the total $300 million cost to realize this plan to cater to the aging population. Join us as Yee Hong expands services to more seniors.
