My Story…
A few years ago, St. Paul’s successfully raised a lot of money to help send kids to camp. This year, because of Covid, most of the camps were closed – and that was tough on both the kids that didn’t get to go to camp, and the camps themselves, who saw a lot of expenses to maintain the facilities but no income.
Toronto United Church Council who manages the UCC camp properties (but not the programming – that’s left to the counselors and the kids!) in the region each year does a fundraiser for the camps in collaboration with the Toronto Waterfront Marthon. The funds we raise are designated to the fund of our choice – this year the TUCC Camp fund is called ‘Pass it On.’
I’m participating in the marathon this year to raise funds for Camping, and am inviting you to help me raise $1500. You’ll have to bear with me as I’ll probably be walking into November – although I’ve already clocked more than 15 miles of the 26 ½ ).
If you camped as a kid, you probably have great memories and it helped make you the person you are today. If you didn’t get the chance, all we can tell you is that it often is a transformative experience for kids, and they carry those memories and friendships through life.
BTW, the response has been so generous and kind thus far, that I felt compelled to up my target! Thank you to all who have been so supportive! Holy Camping Cots, Batman!
