Matthew House was started by Anne Woolger from her encounter with a refugee 30-years ago, after learning about his heart-wrenching story of escaping persecutions followed by a tough journey in starting a new life in Canada.
Growing up in an immigrant family, I had the first-hand experience of transitioning into a new culture, and it was a truly challenging one. Today, my family and I are immensely grateful for those that helped us along this journey!
I've personally witnessed the wonderful work of Matthew House over the past 3 years in their support of refugees, in restoring their dignity and helping them navigating through many difficult steps so that they don't have to face them alone.

Matthew House is a community of homes that welcome, shelter and assist newly arrived refugee claimants in Toronto. Our desire is to restore refugee's dignity and hope by providing emotional and physical support in a homelike setting to help them heal from their journey and establish new lives in Canada. When we run for Matthew House, we send a message that says "my Toronto is your Toronto" for vulnerable newcomers like refugees. Join our team and help transform the lives of newly-arrived refugees.
