My Story…
Every year we walk/run for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon to support North York Community House's programs. This year we are walking to raise money for seniors programs. As you know, seniors have been highly impacted by the pandemic. At NYCH we have been working tirelessly to support seniors receive the help they need. This year, I am doing the virtual 5K. As many of you know I am still dealing with some mobility issues from my knee surgery. Still, I am determined to walk the the 5K (slowly & with my walking sticks) because I love my work and my clients, who overcome so many challenges to make a life here in Canada. Newcomers and their families face numerous barriers to starting their new lives here in Canada. Your kindness will create opportunities for them to settle successfully, thrive in their new settings and become leaders in the community.
Every year, over 20,000 people will come through our doors to access the programs and services we offer. Through generous donations like yours, new immigrants and refugees will receive free, one-on-one settlement help; immigrant professionals will develop their skills for workplace success; newcomer youth will feel more welcome in their new schools; families in under-resourced neighbourhoods will be encouraged to get active and stay healthy.
All funds raised by NYCH through the 2020 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will support innovative children, youth, and family programs – providing opportunities for residents in northwest Toronto to gain confidence, build skills, and lead positive change in their neighbourhoods.
