My Story…
This year's STWM marks my 6th time running in this event and my 5th time running in support of Matthew House. Running with the MH Team has become one of my favourite fall traditions in Toronto, but this year, it all looks a little different. Regardless, our dedication and motivation remains the same!
For those who are forced to flee their homes, MH continues to provide a safe and welcoming place in our city. The current global pandemic has caused challenges for many of us here at home, but for those without a home, it is that much more difficult.
So it is these people that I will be thinking of and running for at the end of October. Having just moved to a small town in Alaska, I will be running this marathon either by running laps around the town or on a treadmill (weather dependent).
If you are in a position to give to MH and support this unusual marathon, know that you are making a world of difference in a challenging time. We truly appreciate it.
Description
Matthew House is a community of homes that welcome, shelter and assist newly arrived refugee claimants in Toronto. Our desire is to restore refugee's dignity and hope by providing emotional and physical support in a homelike setting to help them heal from their journey and establish new lives in Canada. When we run for Matthew House, we send a message that says "my Toronto is your Toronto" for vulnerable newcomers like refugees. Join our team and help transform the lives of newly-arrived refugees.
