My Story…
Thanks so much for sponsoring me in my 5K (wimp ;)) walk for Tonembee Association. I have been working with Tonembee for the past 10 years providing high school and university education to dozens of students from the remote Kenyan village of Kithuia. These are hard-working, qualified girls and boys who have lost parents and families to disease and poverty and have no other way than education to lift themselves out of their dire circumstances. We have also provided over 1400 solar cookers to the village which has dramatically improved their climate changing environment in the midst of escalating rates of drought, deforestation, and famine. This year in the face of the Covid 19 pandemic, we have also provided 2300 face masks and over 80 litres of sanitizers. Villagers are also receiving instruction and hand-washing stations which so far have kept them Covid-free in spite of being in the county with the 4th highest rate of infection in Kenya. We want to supply another 1000 masks. Asanti Sana! Thank you for any tax deductible donation you can manage. In the Kamba language Tonembee means 'Moving forward with Vision'! Description
Tonembee sponsors watch a deserving student make their way through a high school or university education. They see families use solar cookers, improving their health and environment or happily watch a family move back into a re-built house after a devastating flood. Our person to person approach means having regular access to the people you are helping in a meaningful way. 100% of donation funds go directly to Kithuia Village, Kenya.
Our ongoing goal this year is to help the village get their own solar cooker manufacturing company off the ground and turned into a sustainable cottage industry. www.tonembee.com
