My Story…

Our Place Community of Hope is a drop-in centre in Toronto that provides a safe and inclusive space for adults living with mental illness.

At Our Place, people experiencing serious mental health issues find a sense of community and belonging, while making connections to additional services and supports.

Due to COVID-19, we had to close the drop-in on March 17th. However, throughout the pandemic, we have continued to address the food insecurity and isolation that so many of our community members face by providing the following supports:

* Providing fresh and nutritious To-Go Meals, 5 days a week (over 1200 meals provided in September!)

* Hot coffee, snacks & pantry items given out, 5 days a week

* Weekly telephone check-ins for those who are particularly vulnerable

* Virtual Programs, including: Peer Support Group, Anger Management, Writing Group, Mens/Women's Discussion Group

* Outdoor Drop-In (weather-permitting)

* Provision of TTC tokens, clothing and hygiene items, as needed.

Since the onset of the pandemic, we have seen a drastic increase in the need for meals, groceries and drinking water.

Not only are we serving more individuals who are homeless/precariously housed and living with mental illness, we are now seeing students, families and newcomers to Canada struggling with food access.

Your support will allow us to continue these valuable supports and reach those who are most vulnerable.

Description

Here at St. Michael’s Homes, we work with men and women to help them overcome drug and/or alcohol addiction and dependence, interrelated mental health issues and the associated challenges that come with them. We offer a range of services, including Engagement, Treatment, Housing, and Aftercare so that we can meet men where they are in terms of their recovery. We have also added a Psychotherapy Program, which helps our clients address the underlying issues that may be contributing to their struggle with substances. Our Drop-in, Our Place Community of Hope, provides support and connection to individuals living in the community with mental illness.

These programs help the men that we work with to rebuild their lives, however that may look for them. Last year, our team was able to raise over $6,000 to help these programs continue. Help us beat that this year and reach our goal of $8,000!
