“As the pandemic has worn on, it’s no surprise that domestic abuse and suicide attempts have escalated. 75% of Ontarians believe the impacts on mental health to be serious and lasting. An Ipsos Canada May 2020 survey revealed that close to 50% of our children and youth were deemed to be at risk.  Children are experiencing the mental health effects of physical distancing from their friends, grandparents, the shutdown of schools and picking up on the financial stresses within the family.  Mental health and emotional wellbeing of children should not be understated as being critical to their development”. (CMHO NEWS)

This year Lumenus needs you more than ever!  Lumenus has seen a rapid increase in demand for services over the past year, in part due to increased discussion, visibility, and lessening of the stigma attached to mental health issues.  We are currently seeing increased anxiety of children and parents from the impact of COVID-19 and now with schools opening, we anticipate a spike in demand for mental health counselling services and counselling services accessed through our 5 free walk-ins located across the GTA.  

Mental illness does not discriminate against status, age, race or gender.  It can affect anyone at anytime.  You or someone you know 

1 in 5 kids suffer from mental illness such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and conduct disorders with many going undiagnosed and untreated due to lack of resources (CMHO). That means you or someone you know will experience a mental illness in your lifetime. Counselling offered at Lumenus helps to prevent a crisis and provide the tools needed to help individuals cope through these difficult times 

Approximately, $100 provides 1 hour of counselling.  Funds raised will enable Lumenus to provide counseling services for families in need over and above what our government funding supports.
