Help us raise money

For participating in Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Virtual Race 2020

Our story…

You can make a difference in the lives of Mexican children who are deaf. Can we count on your support to sponsor our family team “Holy Walkamolies”? We will walk 5kms to help ESCUELA de EDUCACIÓN ESPECIAL de SAN MIGUEL de ALLENDE give deaf children the education they deserve.

Because there are no publicly funded schools for deaf children in the State of Guanajuato, parents of a deaf child have previously had no option but to send their child to languish, virtually untaught in a public school classroom with hearing students and with no sign language instruction. Since 2012 EEESMA has set out to change that.

During Covid-19 the school has reverted to the virtual classroom via smartphone and laptop for visual communication in Mexican Sign Language. When safe to do so, in-person classroom instruction will return. Until then, it is our goal to raise $2500 to acquire electronic equipment so that each student will have a personal device to communicate from home and, most importantly, to provide the professional instruction in sign language that each student needs.

Six members of our family, three generations, will complete the walk on October 11th, 2020 near our home in Nelson B.C.

We appreciate your support, no matter how small. And the kids of EEESMA send a big thank you!

Be well and stay safe,

John and Sharon Doherty
