Our story…

COVID-19 has brought the challenges faced by seniors to the forefront. Not only are adults at greater risk of contracting COVID-19, they are also at high risk of experiencing financial instability, anxiety, depression, and social isolation during this pandemic. For older newcomer adults, the additional barriers of language, low-income, lack of access to and familiarity with technology has made these past five months extremely difficult. At North York Community House, we have been working tirelessly so seniors can access food, supplies, benefits, health care, and stay connected and healthy. Your kindness and generosity will help newcomer seniors receive the financial, emotional, and social support they need to come out of this crisis stronger.

Description

Newcomers and their families face numerous barriers to starting their new lives here in Canada. Your kindness will create opportunities for them to settle successfully, thrive in their new settings and become leaders in the community.

Every year, over 20,000 people will come through our doors to access the programs and services we offer. Through generous donations like yours, new immigrants and refugees will receive free, one-on-one settlement help; immigrant professionals will develop their skills for workplace success; newcomer youth will feel more welcome in their new schools; families in under-resourced neighbourhoods will be encouraged to get active and stay healthy.

All funds raised by NYCH through the 2020 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will support innovative children, youth, and family programs – providing opportunities for residents in northwest Toronto to gain confidence, build skills, and lead positive change in their neighbourhoods.
