Visit team pageOn Sunday, June 21st 2020, I am participating in Wheels benefitting The Darling Home for Kids because I want to make a difference in my community. Every dollar I raise through my participation in this event will directly support The Darling Home for Kids.
The Darling Home for Kids is a place of joy, filled with the smiles and laughter of children engaging in unique and enriching experiences. Located in Milton, it is a state of the art facility providing respite, palliative and residential care for children who are medically complex, many of whom depend on technology for daily living. Since opening the doors to families in 2004, The Darling Home for Kids has provided over 500,000 hours of service.
As Ontario’s first paediatric hospice and respite centre, The Darling Home for Kids was built on 77 acres of woodlands to provide essential care to families facing the daily challenges of caring for a child with complex medical needs. Requiring care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the parents of these special children need support. Currently, The Darling Home for Kids is one of only three homes in Ontario providing highly specialized paediatric hospice and respite services, and the only home to also offer long term residential care. This means the organization is truly one-of-a-kind, and in very high demand with more than 16,000 Ontario children requiring this level of care.

My Story…
I’ve worked at The Darling Home for Kids since 2014, and for 5 of those years I’ve been a nurse caring for some of the most medically complex children. They all have a lot going on, most with many technologies that help to keep them alive everyday. But that isn’t what defines them. They all have their own story and their own personality and they are also superhero’s. Their families work day in and day out to give their child the best life they can.
AND we can help!!! Donations go towards our embrace campaign which is working to build more space for the moments that matter. These moments may be a child feeling the wind on their face while swinging at the park, watching movies with their friends, cuddling with their loved ones, or a staff member providing comfort to a child at the end of their life. ALL these moments matter for our kids and you can help make more of them!! I appreciate any amount you can donate, big or small. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
