Our story…
We had no idea the birth of our son, Elijah Finn Mason, would solve a medical mystery that had plagued the men in our family for multiple generations. Elijah was born on September 18, 2019, shortly after Texas added ALD to the Newborn Screening. We were devastated and confused by this diagnosis, as I know all parents are when they receive that phone call confirming the worst. Once we met with our geneticists we started putting some pieces together about two great uncles, an uncle, and my own dad who have suffered from gait and balance issues, some being much more severe than others (what we now know to be AMN). Through further testing, 13 additional family members have been diagnosed as having ALD. Three of these diagnoses are Jackson (7), Kane (5), Keaton (5). With four little boys in our family having a long road of monitoring and uncertainty ahead of them, we want to help support ALD research in any way we can. Help us raise money to OUTRUN ALD!
