My Story…

At about 34 weeks pregnant with H, I started to get really, really itchy. I'm talking scratch your feet and palms raw against pavement and hair brushes itchy. Being that it was my first time being that far along, I asked if this was normal on a Facebook mom group, which is when I was alerted to "ICP" (no, not the Insane Clown Posse). While some of the comments assured me that it was totally normal to be itchy while pregnant, others urged me to get tested for ICP asap (so I did, the very next day). I had NEVER heard of it before, so I'm assuming that many other pregnant women and their partners haven't, either, which is why ICP awareness is so important. Turns out, I was positive for this liver disease, and was immediately scheduled for induction at 37 weeks. Women with ICP are induced 3-4 weeks early because this terrifying disease can result in stillbirth in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I still thank God for that group that very well may have saved H's life!
