For participating in Virtual ICP Walk/Run to Fight the itch

Our story…

At 34 weeks along in my pregnancy with Hope, I was diagnosed with ICP, also known as Cholestasis of Pregnancy. This is a pregnancy-related condition in which the liver doesn’t properly filter bile acids. The bile acids go into the bloodstream and ultimately to the baby. The most common symptom is itching, especially on the palms of hands and soles of feet, but it can happen anywhere. This disease is life-threatening to the unborn child. After 37 weeks, the risk of stillbirth rises to 15%. Treatment for ICP consists of increased monitoring for baby, medication to control bile acid levels from reaching a dangerously high level, and early delivery (36-37 weeks). With the support and quick action of my amazing care team, Hope was born at 37 weeks perfectly healthy. We are so thankful and want to spread awareness of this disease, as early detection and intervention are everything with ICP! They are essential and life-saving. We are so grateful for your support of ICP Care.
