As some of you may know, I was given a preliminary diagnosis of endometriosis late this summer. This is a non-life threatening disease that can cause severe pain in one's body. It occurs when lining similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing adhesions and issues like organs sticking together. What fun! After suffering from abnormal pelvic pain for months, doctors finally found a large endometrioma on my left ovary. It's supposed to be surgically removed, but with the pandemic overwhelming Montreal's hospitals, doctors, nurses and support staff, it's unclear when this will be. This is why it's so important we maintain our physical distance and follow health and safety protocols, so people like me can get the treatment they need when they need it.

I was moved by the countless stories of women and non-binary people who've suffered all their lives and have had irreversible damage done to their bodies because they weren't taken seriously. I am very lucky that my voice was heard right away by my doctors - but I also know so many can't say the same. Endometriosis is diagnosed in 1 and 10 womxn and non-binary people, but is suspected to effect many more who never receive a diagnosis due to lack of information and the belief that debilitating menstrual pain is "normal," when it's not.

That's why I've chosen to participate in The Endometriosis Network Canada's Run to end Endo. Done at your own time, at your own pace, for a safe run for all.
