For participating in DOUGIE'S EPIC ADVENTURE - A Magical Flutie 5K!

Our Story

Autism Sprinter serves low-income, predominantly black and brown single mothers from Boston and Randolph who too frequently denied critical information and deprived of essential resources because of economic circumstances, linguistic and cultural heritage, and access to social capital. There is a lack of community awareness and acceptance of children with autism in the urban community and there are few “autism-friendly” events, restaurants, community centers or housing opportunities that meet our needs. Many parents are also afraid to seek help because of stigma of mental health challenges in communities of color. Underfunded public schools are infrequently able to provide the specialized services and resources needed for family support and stabilization. understands our needs from a cultural responsive lens. We are raising funds to continue to our culturally responsive work in the disability space.

Description

Help our team reach our goal for Dougie's Epic Adventure: A Magical Flutie 5K, to raise critical funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest!

Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 22-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $15 million to partner schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people and families affected by autism. The Flutie Foundation also provides direct financial support to families through initiatives like education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, to provide immediate help where it's needed the most.
