Legs goes virtual in 2020!
Yes, that's right ! After a year filled with transition work and internal reorganization, we're ready to take on 2020, even through a global pandemic ! Even though we won't be able to gather at the Start line and run/walk together, Legs for Literacy will still happen in a virtual form - and with an exciting feel nonetheless to celebrate its 20th anniversary, including a 5k, 10k, half-marathon and possibility of half-marathon team relay.
Mark October 23-25, 2020 as "Race Weekend" on your calendars for the 2020 Legs for Literacy Virtual event, but log your run anytime between Oct. 19th and Oct. 25th, 2020.
Choose your distance, 5k, 10k, half marathon and team relay, lace up your shoes (or slip on your flip flops - whatever floats your boat) and hit up your favorite trail or road and log your run. It really is simple as that!
Each participant will receive a medal and a face mask, as well as a wave of gratitude from our partners working in literacy organizations, who greatly need our support in these challenging times.
We also have special edition T-shirts for sale, if you want to grab one of those as a memorabilia.
In past events, approximately 3000 runners and walkers participated in various race day events: including a full marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k and Team Relays. Another 450 school-aged children competed in our Family Run Walk which encourages children at the elementary and middle school levels to make healthy physical activity a part of their daily routine. Every year we raise over $30 000 for charitable contributions to local literacy projects, bringing our total to date to $781 000.
Join us in 2020 for some virtual fun!
NOTE: TO GET YOUR EVENT RACE MEDAL AND FACE MASK (*AND T-SHIRT, FOR THOSE WHO BUY THE T-SHIRT) BEFORE THE RACE, YOU NEED TO REGISTER BEFORE FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2020. ALL REGISTRATIONS AFTER THIS DAY WILL RECEIVE THEIR KIT IN THE MAIL AFTER VIRTUAL RACE WEEK.

FAQ
What is a Virtual Run/Walk?
A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym, or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. You get a special edition medal, and a special edition branded face mask! Once you have signed up for a race, decided on the distance you want to complete and on the course you want to do, all you have to do is log your run, and submit your results (if you want!). You can even get your friends and/or your kids to race with you too.
How do I post my results?
There will not be any chip timing but we will provide you with a link to post your results. You have the option to post (or not post) your results. If you enter your results and then run the distance with a better time and would like to update your time... you can do that too! Uploading your results to Race Roster is as simple as this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X1T0eS5oro&feature=youtu.be
Can kids participate as well?
Of course! We highly encourage it!
Do I need to show proof that I completed my challenge?
Even though we love seeing any app results, you don’t need to!
You can also share your accomplishment on social media using #VirtualLFL2020 #Runningforliteracy during our virtual running week!
In a nutshell, what is the step by step to participate in a virtual race?
- Sign up for your race on Race Roster.
- Choose a distance.
- Run or walk inside on a treadmill or out, on a route of your choosing. Practice safe social distancing.
- Post your results (if you wish).
- Celebrate your event. Wear your mask and medal with pride!
When can I do my run?
You can do your run any time, day or night, between the start and end date of the event. As long as you walk or run your chosen distance outside or on your treadmill between October 19th and October 25th, you’re good to go!
Why did we decide to include a mask?
It has become evident that face masks will be a part of our lives for the next 12-24 months in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We thought it'd be fun to have a LFL branded mask to wear and remind us of the year we went virtual!
Why is the t-shirt not included in the registration price?
Because we want to make the registration cost as low and accessible as possible, we decided to include the medal and the branded face mask in the registration, and to sell t-shirts as an optional bonus item which will help us raise funds for our Giving program towards literacy initiatives. It's a win-win!
What are the rules?
Please follow all Federal, Provincial, and Municipal laws regarding social distancing, and public gatherings.
*Cancellation/Refunds
Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund for this event. Since we immediately spend the money on ordering for the medal/masks and shipping, all sales are final.
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!
We want to thank our sponsors for their generous contributions towards this year's virtual event! This event would not be possible without their help and support.
