Help Meaghan raise money

This cause is near and dear to my heart, and is also fitting that I’m running to support it. My running journey began several years ago, when my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Watching her struggle was overwhelming, so I turned to this sport to work out the frustration I was feeling. When she was fighting hard, she said that she wanted to do the Disney Princess 5k to celebrate finally being cancer free. I was so proud of her when we were able to cross that finish line together, holding hands.

This is all to say that we are incredibly privileged. Not only was she able to have support through work with allowing her time off without fear of loosing her job, but she has a job that has allowed her (little by little) to pay the enormous hospital bills while still living her life mostly unchanged. We got to go to that Disney trip, (and many more times since then!). For some folks, the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis would ruin their lives, and they would never be able to pay it back.

So, until we have a president who can get us some actual god damn health care reform, I’m so happy that we have organizations like The Family Reach to support cancer patients. If you can, please donate to this cause, and also, in a few days,  vote for a president who will make organizations like this unnecessary.
