My Story…
This year I’ll be participating in the St. Pete Run Fest half marathon in honor of my father, Joseph Mailey Bost who passed away in August 2006 after a 14-year battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
At the time of his diagnosis in 1992, my dad was told he had about one year to live. Refusing to accept that prognosis, he participated in every experimental trial available, many of which were funded by organizations like The American Cancer Society. Throughout the next 14 years of aggressive chemotherapy, radiation and experimental treatments, it was imperative to him that he stay in peak physical health so he could have as many years with his family as possible. Some of my fondest memories growing up were our special “runs”, where my dad, a cancer warrior, would run 5-6 miles while I followed along on my bike. Although I didn’t inherit athletic genes, I will be walking this year’s half marathon and raising money for the American Cancer Society so that we can continue developing cutting edge treatments that will save more lives.
