My Story...
This is my 5th year as a volunteer at Camp Ooch and my 3rd year participating in the SportingLife 10K!
This year is the 2nd Virtual SportingLife 10K and this I will be challenging myself to do the SportingLife 10K TEN times between May 9th and May 30th... I may regret this decision in May!
Over the past 5 years as a volunteer I have met so many incredible kids and seen them grow. This camp is different for so many reasons, it allows kids with cancer to just be kids and have a break from the hospital. Ooch has an incredible medical team that allows kids who are currently on treatment to still go to overnight camp. The money raised has helped ensure that camp is fully accessible for everyone and campers don't pay anything to attend. They are currently finishing a massive renovation to make camp even more accessible with new accessible trails, dock, and boardwalk.
This year has been a little different with the pandemic making it unsafe to have in person programs and overnight camp. Instead of just calling it a day and waiting for the pandemic to end, Ooch stepped up and created hundreds of virtual programs and events for campers and their families. They were able to reach kids all across Ontario and even some who aren't normally able to come to in person activities due to distance. Ooch created camp in a box with all the equipment needed to participated in all the programs. They even gave technology (tablets) to families that didn't have a way to participate.
This incredible camp needs our help to keep providing fun and excitement to these amazing kids!

Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts—your gift will make a world of difference!
Cancer changes a child’s life. So does camp. And so can you.
