My Story...
In 2019, I grew a "growth ring" as my Mom likes to call them. It means that I had an experience that fundamentally changed me and I grew from it. Heading to Ooch for the first time was as big a leap for me as it was for my campers. Why? Because I always hated camp.
Camp was never for me. I didn't enjoy it. I was a terribly homesick kid. Camp and I didn't jive.
Now when I hear 'This Is My Place' I get teary every time. Now, when I hear "Stuck Like Glue" I laugh. Now, when I think about summer, I think abut Ooch. I remember the polar bear dips and the s'mores and the laughter of kids who should be sleeping but want to stay up telling ghost stories. I miss it deeply, but I know we'll be able to go back one day. I can't wait.
So until then, I'm asking for your support as I run 10 km to support this magical place. It truly is magical. It needs all the help it can get to continue to provide incredible programs to kids who deserve them most.
Thanks for you support! It means the world.
Love,
Kate
Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts—your gift will make a world of difference!
Cancer changes a child’s life. So does camp. And so can you.
