My Story...
When I reflect on the early moments in our dating when my fiancée Jasmine shared with me she overcame cancer as a youth, I always admired her courage and resilience as she battled with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This May I will be running for her, and so many other children who have fought, won, and lost against cancer. Learning about her experience at camp ooch showed me what a large impact this camp can have on a child.
On May 24, 2021 we along with a couple of friends will be two metres apart running the Sporting Life 10K for Camp Ooch along the Ottawa Rideau canal. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to send 50 hospital bedside kits or 10 months of virtual camp to cancer-fighting children across Ontario. Battling childhood cancer is already tough enough; covid compounds the challenge. Every dollar counts. Would you consider donating and helping me reach my goal?
Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts—your gift will make a world of difference!
Cancer changes a child’s life. So does camp. And so can you.
