My Story...
Dear Friends and Family,
For those of you who don't know, I have been involved with Camp Ooch for over 15 years, volunteering at overnight camp for the last 10 years! Camp Ooch (now Camp Ooch & Trillium) is a camp for children with cancer, providing year round programming at their overnight camp in Muskoka or at multiple children's hospitals around Ontario.
This year I plan to run the sporting life 10k (for the first time!!). Yes, I have participated in the 10k many times before but this will be the first year that I actually run the whole 10k!
COVID can't stop camp and the plan is for overnight camp to still run this year, and charities (including Camp Ooch) are really struggling during the pandemic. The SL10k is usually one of the largest contributors to the operating budget and registration this year (due to the virtual nature of the event) is around 25% of normal.
I have been involved in the "Camp Band" for many years at camp and this year we have decided to fundraise as a team! Stay tuned for our music video in the upcoming weeks!
Your contribution will help ensure that we can continue to do the important work of supporting kids and families who need us most.
Thank you for your support and please stay safe!
Ryan
Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts—your gift will make a world of difference!
Cancer changes a child’s life. So does camp. And so can you.
