My Story...
Dear Family and Friends,
On Emmys 32nd birthday earlier this year, I realized she would have lived half her life with cancer if still here, given the 16 years she courageously managed it from 7 years of age. Her days at Camp Ooch brought her joy in the moments. For Emmy I am walking again and wanting to support, with your help, all the children living with cancer. Their lives are not changed by our much anticipated two vaccines, as they must still live with vulnerabilities, fear and uncertainty. But their days can have laughter and friendship with the virtual camps, and hopefully in person camps, when safe.
With a deep fondness and connection with Emmy, I am committing to walk two 16km walks this May. One for my years in her physical presence, and the other for her continued influence of optimism, hope, perseverance and courage. She will be walking with me in spirit.
If you would like to support Camp Ooch, I will be tremendously grateful, especially for all the children who will benefit. Or if you prefer, please donate blood, that was ’liquid gold’ for Emmy. Or both!
Thank you in advance for your support, as we all strive to treasure the gifts of today. Stay well.
Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts—your gift will make a world of difference!
Cancer changes a child’s life. So does camp. And so can you.
