Our Story...
For our 3rd year running the Sporting Life 10k, we have asked some very special friends to join Team Lara to help raise funds for one of Laraʼs very dearest of places, Camp Oochigeas. Since her diagnosis at age 2, Camp Ooch has come to mean so much to our whole family.
Like last year, the Sporting Life 10k has gone “virtual”. Kids and families affected by childhood cancer still need the magic of camp experience in these unprecedented times. These kidsʼ lives were turned upside down before this pandemic began, and their isolation has only deepened now. In spite of everything, kids still have cancer —and those kids still need our help.
So friends, we will be running the 10k in May and recording our activities on Strava. With so many continuing to face financial pressure, rest assured that even small amounts like $5 or $10 are most welcome.

A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
