My Story…
I have recently returned to one of my first passions- running.
It’s not with the same speed or agility that I once crossed finish lines before the stroke, but I am running anyway. And this June I’ll be running the Scotiabank Charity Challenge three-peat.
A three-peat is an event where I’ll complete a half marathon-10km- and 5km- all in one weekend. The runs will definitely challenge me but I am doing it for the children and families challenged every day by neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumours to grow throughout the body. NF tumours can lead to deafness, bone deformities, learning disabilities, disabling pain, and cancer.
With no NF expert or specialized clinic in the province patients are forced to become the experts in managing their own care. Can you imagine your doctor looking to you for answers and direction on how to treat your illness? That’s what families experience every day after receiving an NF diagnosis.
I am running to change that!
The Tumour Foundation of BC has been working since 2009 to create a medical clinic for the NF community and they're in the home stretch with plans for a clinic opening this summer.
Join me in making a difference for those affected by NF by making a donation to my run.
