My Story…
In January 2019, I lost my father to Alzheimer’s. The type he suffered from was Lewy Bodies Dementia.
Since 2000 studies have shown that deaths from heart disease have decreased by 14% while deaths from Alzheimer’s disease have increased by 89%.
For my father, the disease progressed quickly and he lived 5 years after being diagnosed. It broke my heart seeing my father suffer. He went from being a vibrant man, to a man that depended on support for everything. He could no longer speak and feed himself. I will always remember his love for life. He lived for his family and friends.
There is no cure for Lewy Bodies Dementia. However, I’m positive that in my lifetime, with research and financial support, a cure will be discovered and patients can live with this terrible disease with dignity and support. I promised my dad that I will do everything I can to advance Alzheimer’s research and play a small part in finding a cure.
I am running in the Scotia Bank Charity Challenge in support of Alzheimer’s research at the McGill University Health Centre. Please support me with a donation. Every dollar counts. Thank you. Merci. Grazie.
