Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cancellation policy?
In the event that the in-person event has to be cancelled, due to an increase of local COVID-19 cases or based on the direction of local or provincial authorities, participants will be informed as soon as possible, and all registrants will be automatically switched to a virtual event and you will get a $20 Run Calgary credit to use for any future race. This event will not be rescheduled nor can we offer refunds as per our no refund policy. You can protect your purchase at point of registration by purchasing RegShield, and if you're unable to make the race, you can claim a refund through an insured policy. This is a new feature that will be available for all in-person Run Calgary events going forward. Please note that RegShield does not protect you if we have to switch our event from in-person to virtual.
When should I register?
As soon as we open, limited numbers and early bird rates means you are locking in the best price and guaranteeing your spot. Registration opens to the general public on Monday April 19th at Noon.
Can I receive a refund, or defer my entry to another date?
No refunds can be issued through Run Calgary, however if you purchase the RegShield coverage, you can make a claim through that policy if you are unable to attend (some exceptions apply - please read policy carefully). Please note that RegShield does not protect you if we have to switch our event from in-person to virtual. No deferrals or transfers will be allowed.
Are masks required?
Yes, masks are required to be worn in all start and finish areas on site, and until you have crossed the start line. Masks do not need to be worn on course while running, but should be kept on hand for any self-serve aid stations on course (if applicable) and must be put back on before you exit the finish chute. Masks may be removed after you finish if you are actively eating or drinking.
What post-race amenities will be available?
There will be a contactless pick-up of pre-bagged medal, water, sports drink and post-race treats for all runners immediately after the finish line. One bag per runner, please. There will be self-serve aid stations run by volunteers with single-serve water on-course. A map will be made available closer to the event date. At this time, Run Calgary will not have post-race activities and ask that you limit your dwell time and continue the celebration with us online. Once you receive your pre-bagged items please exit the area.
Will there be a bag check?
Yes, we will have a bag check available.
Will there be porta lets?
Are strollers permitted?
Strollers will be allowed, but anyone participating with a stroller must start the event at the end of the last wave of each distance.
Can I run with my dog/pet?
We love four-legged friends but this is not a dog-friendly event and participants who bring their dogs won't be able to access the start area. Check out the Dash of Doom - our Halloween event at the end of October - for a fun dog-friendly event later this year. Service dogs are allowed if they are working.
Can my family/friends watch?
Only registered runners are allowed into the pre-start, start and finish area, however the course will be open to the public so your friends and family can watch you out on the course.
What is the start line procedure?
The start chute is a mask on zone. Please limit how early you arrive and while waiting in the parking lot for your race to begin loading, maintain social distance.
Instead of a mass start we will maintain social distance in the start area, on the race course and in the finish area by pulse starting participants according to your distance and the coloured dot on your bib. We will pulse start a small socially distanced group of runners every 5 seconds.
Volunteers carrying colored signs will guide you from the parking lot in front of The Grandstand building to load into the back of the start chute based on the colored dot at the top right hand corner of your bib . Please be ready to load with your coloured wave 25 minutes before your race distance starts.

Results are based on chip time so your race will only begin when you cross the start line.
It will take approximately 12 minutes for participants to clear the start line at 7:30 a.m., at 8:00 a.m. and at noon.
Please follow race official and volunteer instructions and listen to the announcers as we will be guiding participants through this new process to ensure this is a positive experience for everyone.

What are the course amenities and procedures?
The exact routes will be published in the summer as we are working with local officials. We have kept the 2019 maps up and are working towards similar routes in 2021. There are volunteer course marshals along each route — please remember to be courteous to other runners and follow proper racing etiquette. Please pay attention to your surroundings and remember to keep your mask handy.
There will self-serve stations and porta lets on the course. Runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and/or hydration packs.
What happens at the finish line?
After crossing the finish line, runners will enter a 'recovery area' where you will have a chance to catch your breath and grab a bottle of water. You will be encouraged to keep moving through the 'recovery area' and put on your mask before entering the pre-packaged goodie section. All runners will receive a pre-packaged bag with their medal and recovery amenities (which will include water, Nuun, and a snack).
We ask that runners exit the park immediately after receiving their amenities,.
