My Story…
My family lives and plays in one of the rarest places on Earth--the Yellowstone to Yukon region. We ski, hike, bike, paddle, and run in these mountains, and on its glacier-fed lakes and rivers. I take pride in the fact that I need to carry bear spray on my runs because you never know if there is a beautiful grizzly bear around the corner. Just being here lifts our spirits. It's the place where so many of our family memories are born.
When I first moved here, it never occurred to me that we could lose these lush, wild spaces and the animals that live here. But I soon learned it is more fragile than I would have ever expected.
If we are not careful we may not have caribou, grizzly bears or other wildlife as we do today. We need to take care of this special place, make good decisions, run, bike, hike, paddle with consideration for the other life that live here and be good stewards of the land.
Our team is running to support the efforts of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y). Their mission is to connect and protect habitat from one Y to the other so people and nature can thrive. They safeguard our headwaters, protect habitat that is important to animals and they work with communities to help them live with wildlife.
If you enjoy this special landscape, consider donating a few dollars for nature!
Description
The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y) works to connect and protect habitat from Yellowstone to Yukon so that people and nature thrive. To achieve our vision across these 2,000 miles (3,200 km) Y2Y protects core habitats, keeps these habitats connected, and inspires others to engage in similar work. We highlight and focus on local issues that have implications for the region as a whole, and work with partners to stitch together this landscape. Y2Y’s role is to set the context for regional conservation work by providing the vision for a healthy Yellowstone to Yukon landscape, and to bring partners together to achieve as a network what none of us can accomplish alone. Collaboratively, we knit this landscape together from one jurisdiction to the next. Communities need equal opportunities and rights to thrive, so Y2Y seeks to support human diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental and social justice, and to oppose actions and policies that undermine these principles.
