My Story…
POGO has help our family out so much throughout our sons cancer treatment. I have chosen to join the race to spread awareness of childhood cancer and POGO supports families directly like ours by providing meal allowances, lodging and other additional costs that are hard to cover during time off work for many families in Ontario.
Our son was born with a rare non-hereditary genetic condition known as Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome. This syndrome comes with an increased risk of developing specific types of childhood cancers which our son happened to be diagnosed with. Now that he is in remission I have decided to help raise awareness & donate back to POGO to help other families facing childhood cancer diagnosis.
Description
I’m lacing up in support of the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) and childhood cancer care.
Funds raised through the Toronto Women’s Run Series will provide financial assistance to families so they can pay for out-of-pocket costs associated with their child’s treatment; support survivors with customized academic and employment counselling when their disease or its treatment has left them with learning challenges; and fund promising research that examines the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.
As new treatments and technologies continue to increase the rate of survival for childhood cancer, care for these children, their families and survivors is becoming more and more complex.
That’s why POGO is there for them from the start, and for as long as they need us. Whatever it takes to make a difference, and change a life.
