Help Jeffrey raise money

For participating in 2021 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend

My Story…

April 26 Update!

WOAH.  Goal achieved!  I am touched by the donations I've gotten, from friends, family, coworkers, and even total strangers.    You are all awesome people, and I can't thank you all enough.

I guess this means that I can't back out now.   The plan is still to run the 5K Friday morning, half-marathon on Saturday, and the marathon on Sunday.

See you at the (virtual) finish line.

Really, Seriously, Thank you,

-jeaton

Previous Update:

Wow.  Yinz are generous.  Thank you all so very much.  I expected a few small donations but nothing like this!  Since I actually managed to raise $500 on top of my $500 initial donation, I'm aiming a little higher now.  How about $2620, or $100/mile for the marathon?

Thank you,

Jeff

I'm going to do Something Stupid.

I've decided to do something stupid. While thinking about this idea, I thought that if I was going to do something stupid, I should at least do it for a good cause. So I am.

Thanks to, well (gesticulates wildly) everything, I have been doing a lot of running on my treadmill. I was already registered for the virtual Pittsburgh Half-Marathon and 5K races, so I've been training for those. I am way ahead of where I thought I would be in my training because running is my escape from the world for a little while. So much so that I ran more than a half-marathon for my long run on the treadmill last week.

So, why not move up to the full marathon? But I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to change my registration now. Besides, they're virtual, so why not just run all of the races?

So I'm going to run the 5K one day. Then I'll run the half marathon the next day. Then the full marathon on the third day. All 42.4 miles of it on my treadmill.

Since this sounds less stupid if I do it for a good cause, I'm joining the Run For A Reason Charity Program, and running to raise money for 412 Food Rescue. Running always makes me hungry, so running for food seems like a natural fit, and they're good people doing good work to keep food from getting wasted, and instead get it to people who need it.

The way the charity program works is that if I raise at least $500 for my charity, I get my registration free. Unfortunately, I hate doing fundraising. I am terrible at asking people to do things, even for a good cause. So, I'm donating to cover my own fundraising goal. That way no matter how poorly I do raising money, I know I at least covered my commitment. Anything other people donate on top of that is just gravy.

If you are so motivated, you can donate to 412 Food Rescue (and encourage me in my stupidity). You don't have to, but I'm sure they would appreciate it.

I know I would.

Thank you.
