Have you ever slipped some change to a homeless person and wondered if the cash was really helpful? DeSoto Cares Homeless Services really helps the homeless. When a client comes in, the first step is identifying their immediate need. We help with daily needs, showers, laundry, computer access, mailboxes. We help with identification, connecting clients with services they need. Sometimes we only see individuals a few times, and we know we haven't provided enough. We could do so much more if we had a place to offer temporary housing to those who truly want to end the cycle of homelessness. The Tiny Town Program will be open to all who are ready to change their lives. Program participants will agree to follow a personalized plan to meet their specific needs. Each program participant will have a Case Manager who will provide referrals to partner agencies as needed. Program participants will adhere to strict guidelines and will meet regularly at Town Hall meetings. The Tiny Town property is adjacent to SR 70 just west of US 17. The proximity to town will allow participants to integrate into the community and use local public transportation as needed. In December 2020 the City of Arcadia Zoning board gave our permit application a recommendation. Early in 2021 Arcadia City Council will hold two hearings for more public input, and then make a decision on our application.
