Wow, what a journey I've had as a psychiatrist at at the Ottawa Hospital!  I've felt a bit like a medical firefighter, jumping to fill in gaps in our stretched psychiatric services wherever there was need.  From addressing the mental health needs of complex medical issues, HIV and brain injuries, to crisis work in the emergency department, helping people through substance use problems, supporting youth through their first diagnosis of schizophrenia,  and treating the most in need on our inpatient psychiatry units.... I've pretty much seen it all but there is nothing more rewarding to me than helping someone experiencing feelings of catastrophe to living with stability.  

These opportunities have shown me first hand how our psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and entire mental health team are dedicated to our community.  Take a look at our team page to learn a bit about what we do.

Our team is growing and we are attracting new recruits from across Canada and internationally to build our service and research capacity.  Integrating researchers into our busy teams will allow us to develop and provide cutting edge care.  We're calling it 'practice changing research'.
