Notre histoire…
Before March 2020, I only ever ran to catch the bus. When the pandemic hit, I signed up for a 10K race, thinking that 8 weeks of training would be enough even though the only thing I did to raise my heart rate was watch Breaking Bad or Doug Ford's press conferences. Spoiler alert: I was not able to run 10km within two months.
This year, I signed up for a more realistic goal.
On May 1, I will be participating in Tamarack Ottawa Virtual Race Weekend 2021 and raising money for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely stressful on parents and caregivers. Imagine adding a sick child to the mix. Imagine the heartbreak of not being able to accompany or visit your sick child because only one parent is allowed inside.
1 year in, running still doesn't come very naturally to me. I get frustrated easily at my perceived lack of progress, and most days I have to force myself to put my shoes on and leave the house. I've wanted to give up countless times. But I am happy to do it if it means I get to make a small contribution for people who don't get to give up.
Every little bit helps - thank you for supporting myself and my friend Sara (who is running a 10k because she rules).
