In August 2018, Daniel Chapman was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. After 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 20 sessions of radiation, Daniel entered remission in April 2019. Daniel was advised by his oncologist that it would take approximately 24 months to fully recover from the treatments that his body endured. Almost 2 years to the date, Daniel will be running his first marathon as a charity runner for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Accompanying Daniel on his race will be his running coach and mother, Nancy Chapman. When Daniel was diagnosed, Nancy took a temporary leave of absence from her business to be Daniel's primary care giver during his treatments.

Team Chapman's goal is not only to finish the Virtual Ottawa Marathon and give hope to active blood cancer patients and survivors, but also to raise as much money as they can to directly support those newly diagnosed, people in treatment, and those navigating life after cancer.

NOTE: Cancer did not stop because of a global pandemic. Since the pandemic started in 2020, non-urgent surgeries stopped, clinical trials were suspended and scientists in labs put their research on hold. It is a trend that puts blood cancer research and patient care in a dangerously fragile state. Needless to say, it is an incredibly important time to support organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
