My Story…
On November 30th, 2018, I went to the hospital for my third fetal monitoring session. The first two sessions were uneventful, and I presumed I would be out of the hospital within an hour. I was 35 weeks and 5 days pregnant. During the session, something wasn't quite right, and I was sent to emergency. The baby's heartrate was dropping quickly, and the decision was made to do an immediate C-section. Just over an hour later, my baby girl, Sophie Madison Wong, was born. My head was spinning, and I was an emotional mess. But, the rollercoaster wasn't over. I was not allowed to hold my daughter as she was brought into the NICU to be intubated. When I finally got to see her, I knew that something was terribly wrong. Doctors performed tests and, several days later, it was confirmed that Sophie had a condition that was not compatible with life. My heart was broken and forever changed.
Our ten days with Sophie were both beautiful and traumatic. We miss her everyday. But, I imagine that Sophie is looking down on us from the stars, and at the same time, sees us as her stars.
Having experienced both pregnancy and infant loss, I am so grateful that this event exists to bring awareness to the community as well as to help parents and families as they grieve the loss of their babies. Your support is much appreciated.
With love, Lillian~
