Race Day is getting closer… we will be busy up till then with Olivias ‘a Cardiology appointments, pre-admission clinics and surgery but we are getting close to our Team Goal!
Here’s our Ronald McDonald House Story:
Our story started back when I was 20 weeks pregnant. It was detected that our baby girl had a Right Aortic Arch with Vascular Ring. We were told we would be monitored and would need to deliver in Edmonton due the potential of complications when she arrived. Since we live in Cold Lake we needed to find a place to stay to be close to the hospital at 37 weeks pregnant. The referral went in for the Ronald McDonald House and they were great at keeping us posted on when a room may be available for us and were extremely accommodating. We had a short stay in the house until our beauty was born. We knew then that although we were leaving the house with a healthy, beautiful baby girl; there would be a time we would be checking in again due to her surgery. After 22 months of multiple trips back and forth to Edmonton for Cardiology appointments we will be making the trip for her surgery in July. For her surgery they will need to ultimately cut the vascular ring which as she grows tightens around the esophagus and trachea causing eating and breathing issues. Once this is done she will have a few follow-ups but other than that will be able to live a normal life. We know our baby girl will be in the best of hands at the Stollery and she will do amazing, but we certainly have so much worry and anxiety as any parent would. Knowing we will most likely stay at the Ronald McDonald House means so much as we know we will be able to keep some sort of routine with her in a safe and comfortable environment which is close to essentials including the hospital. The Hustle for the House just means a little bit more to us this year. We want to do our part to give back to the Ronald McDonald House. The house means so much to so many families past, present and future. We are so very thankful for all they do to help families out when they truly need a little extra love.

“If we didn’t have the Ronald McDonald House,” says Vicky, “we would have had to eventually stay in our vehicle because we wouldn’t have been able to support ourselves for that long.”
"When you’re in the lowest spot you could possibly be in, to have the House there to help you cope, literally helps carry you through." - Vicky Kean (past RMH Family)
