Did you know that Sixty Percent (60%) of our children enter kindergarten without sufficient skills, knowledge, or abilities to engage with kindergarten-level instruction ?* 

Those who start behind stay behind, with higher dropout rates, crime rates, and grade retention; and only ~15% make it to college... and fewer than that finish college.  Also, minority and low income groups are heavier hit, broadening their socioeconomic status gap even further. 

8.4 million American adults are classified as functionally illiterate**.
Of adults with the lowest literacy levels, 43% live in poverty, and 70% of adult welfare recipients have low literacy levels.

Early literacy intervention can address these challenges and positively shape a child’s trajectory in life

I am running this marathon to collect donations which will help fight the cycle of poverty, starting with portions of my community, in order ito: 

Ensure ALL Pre Kindergarten to 3rd Grade students (little children, who are powerless victims with no voices or choices) hit the ground running, with the knowledge and skills required to succeed... 

via resources and programs utilized by the elementary school in my town.  This is one stop on that journey. 

All proceeds will go to fund Westwood Elementary School's ongoing Early Childhood Literacy initiative in Wellington, Ohio.

For those of you who do not have school aged children, please note that your single contribution could improve a fellow human's educational, socioeconomic, and overall lifetime satisfaction. Giving one child the proper resources to start school prepared drastically improves their lives, their  children's lives, and so forth.  

This is a gift that keeps on giving
