Save the Chimps is the largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary in the world whose mission is to provide refuge and exemplary care to chimpanzees in need. Save the Chimps offers life-long care for chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories, the pet trade, and entertainment industry.  330 chimps live at STC. It costs $21,000/year to feed and care for one chimp.  

One of the most fulfilling and joyful times of my life has been as a volunteer at STC. I have volunteered at STC since 2012. I have made chimpanzee meals and enrichment and observed chimp behavior.  I have made sweet potato treats for Thanksgiving and wrapped presents for the chimps for "Chimpmas" and spread them on the island homes for the chimps to find and unwrap. Like humans, they delighted in opening their presents and even crawling in the boxes!  For me, there is no better sound than the pant-hoot of chimpanzees.
