Our story…

As many of you know, my mom just recently celebrated her 16 year milestone as a breast cancer survivor.  Those 16 years have been some of the best years of our lives, and we look forward to so many more with our survivor whom we love SO much.

My dad is just about to celebrate 1.5 years since his emergency open-heart surgery which took place in January of 2020.  My dad has a new-found lease on life and he is working hard on his fitness and health to ensure he's here for Madi for many years to come.  As part of his journey to recovery, my dad has been driving to and from the Cape Cod Healthcare Cardiac Rehab center two to four days per week for nearly one year.  The team there has supported him both mentally and physically as he works on gaining not only physical strength but also a healthier outlook on life.  He almost always walks away from his workout excited, proud, and encouraged that he went one step, peddle, or pound further than the day before.

I am so proud of both my mom and my dad for their hard work to get where they are today.  I can't imagine Madi's childhood without two of her biggest fans in it - they are truly her heroes.

It's heartbreaking to realize some families don't get to celebrate these milestones of survivorship and these journeys to recovery.  On Saturday, August 14th, we will be embarking on a 3-mile walk to honor and support not only our own survivors, but to support all those who are currently fighting to be here and to celebrate their own milestones.  We are walking to support my mom.  We are walking to support my dad and his cardiac journey.  Three miles will be a HUGE accomplishment for him - considering he struggled to walk more than a few steps just one short year ago.  We are walking to support the countless teams of healthcare professionals who work so hard to save lives.  We are walking to support prevention of these diseases so they don't even have to be part of anyone's story.

As part of our walk, we are raising money to donate to the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC).  MBCC is the only non-profit in Massachusetts dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer from environmental causes.  The funds raised will help MBCC expand and support their community education program and their newly-expanded student environmental health program.

Any and every donation are so very much appreciated, as are thoughts of support as we walk our three miles on August 14th.  THANK YOU for being part of our support system.
