My Story…

I first learned about the Caring Fund when I applied to work at TVEF almost three years ago. I wasn't aware of the fund, nor was I privy to the impact it has on hundreds of students and families every year.  The Caring Fund has existed for more than 10 years, thanks to generous community donations, and let me tell you - in my short time at TVEF,  I have seen the impact. The Caring Fund is for TVDSB students and families that need a bit of extra support, quickly, that they may not be able to get elsewhere.

It's for families coping with job losses and hunger. It's for refugee families trying to create a new home environment and acclimate to Canada. It's for students trying to work full-time and graduate high school. It's for families faced with starting over from a house fire. It's for students that just need help to get to school.

The Caring Fund shows families and students that we care. That our community cares. That we want them to succeed. That we to help take a bit of pressure of, so learning can feel less daunting. To show support in times of crisis. To demonstrate that they are not alone, that they belong.

COVID-19 has impacted many people in the past year. Families and students are no different. The Caring Fund helped more than 530 families during the 2019-2020 school year, seeing a staggering increase in request for support when COVID hit. A year later and many students are still feeling the fallout.

If you can, please take a moment to donate. TVEF is a registered charity so your donation is tax deductible. Let's come together and support students across Elgin County, Middlesex County, Oxford County and London. Let's inspire them. Let's give hope. Let's show them that ultimately, #WeCare.

And maybe, just maybe, you feel compelled to share this or to sign up yourself. At the very least, consider following TVEF on Twitter and/or Instagram: @tveducationfdn.

Description

Together, we can make a difference for students across TVDSB! Join us in supporting the Thames Valley Education Foundation and donate in support of the Caring Fund!

Imagine it being the middle of winter and not being able to afford a winter coat or boots.

Imagine staying home from school, because your clothes are old, dirty and worn and you don't feel like you belong.

Imagine worrying about when your next meal might be and if people know how hungry you are. Imagine having to choose between school and work, just to pay the bills.

Imagine how it would feel being told that you were going to get that winter coat and boots for free.

Imagine how it would feel knowing you could go to school again, having new, clean clothes.

Imagine how it would feel receiving gift cards for food, knowing you can eat again. Imagine being able to focus on your education, without having to worry about bills.

That's how the Caring Fund helps students across TVDSB. The Caring Fund supports students in emergency financial need with items such as food, clothing, transportation and temporary shelter, to ensure that they can continue to attend school and learn, even during a crisis.

The Caring Fund helps to reduce poverty-related stigma, strengthen the bond between school communities and at-risk youth, and provide immediate support (usually within 48 hours), while other community support systems (that require more paperwork and planning) are put into place.

This year, Thames Valley Education Foundation is organizing a 5K Your Way challenge where participants can complete 5K doing any activity they see fit! Please, join me and donate in support of my 5K for the Caring Fund. I will be sure to let you know how I complete my 5K!

Let's show them that together, we care. Together, we can make a difference.
