Help Laura raise money

For participating in 2021 Flutie 5k for Autism

My Story

I am proud to raise money for the Special Needs Information Program (SNIP). This is a voluntary program in which special needs community members of any age, or their family members, submit information such as triggers, special accommodations, emergency contacts and a photograph. The information is entered into a database in which emergency responders have access.  In the last year we have expanded the program to include 24 towns in the Upper Valley Region.

Estimates show that as many as 80% of people who become involved with law enforcement are individuals affected by autism, Down syndrome, dementia or another form of developmental or mental impairment. The benefits of this program to our most vulnerable citizens and to law enforcement make it an invaluable safety tool for our community. The tool is free to residents and provides local law enforcement with essential information prior to an emergency

Our vision for this project is to support safe interactions between emergency responders and community members with disabilities.

Description

Join me in reaching my goal for the 2021 Flutie 5k for Autism: Dougie's Epic Adventure, to raise critical funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest!

Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 23-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $15 million to partner schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people and families affected by autism. The Flutie Foundation also provides direct financial support to families through initiatives like education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, to provide immediate help where it's needed the most.
