My Story…
The first time I visited Shadow Lake I was blown away. It is gorgeous, tucked away and a little bit hidden from the hustle and bustle. I soon discovered something even more beautiful... the people who work there and the people who call it their "camp". They bring it all to life!
Shadow Lake is such a special place to so many. A place to meet new people, make friends and connect with old ones. Its campfires and canoeing, swimming and nature walks, arts and crafts, karaoke nights, s'mores, tobogganing and snow shoes and most importantly, miles and miles of smiles YEAR ROUND for all ages and abilities!
I know for so many who have an intellectual disability this past year and a half has been exceptionally hard. Shadow Lake, like everywhere else was closed. And without the laughter and the singing, without the people, it lacked its lustre. This summer we reopened and welcomed guests back to their beloved camp for their weeks vacation. It isn't perfect and the pandemic still makes things hard, but we are back! And we want to keep being there for people to enjoy.
I turn 49 on Sept 1 and my wish this year is for everyone to be happy and healthy. So, if you're motivated... join my team! Or if you just think super special places like this need to keep being super special places, make a donation and help others be happy and healthy! Cheers!

Community Living Toronto fosters inclusive communities by supporting the rights and choices of people with an intellectual disability. We believe in a society where everyone belongs and is valued. Thank you for being part of teams #CLTO. Together we will raise important dollars for programs like LIGHTS (LIGHTS.to) – helping people with an intellectual disability reach their goals of a home of their own in their community; Shadow Lake Centre (shadowlakecentre.ca) – a place where children, youth and adults with special needs can experience the joys of camp and many other areas of greatest needs within or organization.
