My Story…
Hi everyone! This year I am once again running in the Scotiabank virtual marathon relay for the Tonembee Association. Tonembee is a great organization based in Toronto, Canada and Kithuia, Kenya.
My mum, Melissa, has been involved on the board of Tonembee for many years with Nikila Cole and Nicholas Kithembe. Nicholas has stayed with us in Toronto, running with us in the in-person Scotiabank race pre-pandemic, and lives in Kithuia, making sure funds that are raised go to where they are most needed.
This year, we are doing the virtual marathon relay, the same as what we did last year. 4 legs of 10km each will be run, two by myself and my mum here in Toronto, one by Nicholas in Kithuia, and one by our friend Patrick in Edinburgh, who ran with us in Toronto last year!
Any amount at all is incredibly appreciated!
Description
Tonembee sponsors watch a deserving student make their way through a high school or university education. They see families use solar cookers, improving their health and environment or happily watch a family move back into a re-built house after a devastating flood. Our person to person approach means having regular access to the people you are helping in a meaningful way. 100% of donation funds go directly to Kithuia Village, Kenya.
Our ongoing goal this year is to help the village get their own solar cooker manufacturing company off the ground and turned into a sustainable cottage industry. www.tonembee.com
