My Story…
Seven years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Make the choice to do double mastectomy and reconstruction, figuring I will do this, get back to active life.
My path has not been as hoped. With each year I became more and more sick from autoimmune issues. After chasing the systemic pain, we finally realized my body does not want the implants. I was suffering from Breast Implant Illness. The pain and frustration of this unexpected illness was honestly debilitating at times.
So, after 5 other breast surgeries, this March I embarked on path to healing. DIEP FLAP surgery, (building breast from own tissue). Hoping that my body would calm down.
Unfortunately, my healing has been hijacked again. I was hoping by now, I’d be much more active and not in so much systemic pain.
I am back in autoimmune hell and trying not to feel down, but I feel very defeated.
So, I decided that I need to set one active goal for myself, which is to cross the line at Ellen’s Run. I am still in pain and healing, it will likely take 3 hours to complete, but I believe doing this will empower me and raise awareness and funds for others.
The lingering effects of cancer for some doesn’t end when cancer is gone.
Please, if you can donate to my team. “Boobchaks”.
