For those needing some more information on the camp:
Camp Wendake is a one-week retreat camp located just outside of Bayfield, for children and adults living with HIV/AIDS and their primary care givers. This camp gives those infected and affected by this disease a chance to be in a supportive environment with peers facing similar challenges in their daily lives. Camp Wendake promotes spiritual healing, physical well-being, and a chance for social interaction, which many people living with HIV/AIDS do not otherwise have. The camp welcomes approximately 80 campers and another 40 volunteers from across Ontario. Operational costs for the weeklong retreat are approximately $40,000, covering everything from meals to transportation. We rely on private and corporate donations to cover all these costs as we have no government funding.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact in the lives of so many, and in particular those with compromised immune systems, and underlying health issues. As a camp community we are hopeful that we will finally be able to celebrate once again in 2022, as we have been unable to gather for the last 2 seasons. Camp Wendake will be celebrating its milestone 25th camp next year, it has provided more than 2000 participants with an opportunity to be in “a place set apart”. Camp Wendake is staffed and governed entirely by community volunteers.
