Help Sarah raise money

For participating in 2022 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon

My Story…

My one regret about my involvement in Gilda’s Club is that it didn’t start sooner. Going through treatment for ovarian cancer (the same cancer the club’s namesake Gilda Radner had) at 35 was often a deeply isolating experience. While I was so lucky to have a wonderful support network of family and friends, thankfully most of them hadn’t had to face a life-threatening illness at such a young age. So while I couldn’t have done it without them, they couldn’t relate to my experience in the way the other young women I met through Gilda’s Club have been able to.

I can’t describe the relief of having an incredibly tough and kind and funny group of people who I could be brutally honest with about the challenges of cancer and all the impossible decisions it forces us to make, along with all the things we don’t get a choice in. We also laughed a shocking amount. The instant camaraderie we formed provided some vital healing and comfort in the worst time of my life and gifted me with new lifelong friendships.

Reaching out to Gilda’s Club was the best thing I did for myself during treatment. Their AYA support group has been a lifeline to me, and I want to help them continue to be the same for other patients and survivors.
